Jose hints Mkhitaryan could face West HamManchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be in line for another start this weekend after impressing against Feyenoord.
The Armenian earned the club's man of the match award after catching the eye on his second start for the Reds in Thursdays 4-0 win over the Dutch side at Old Trafford.
The summer signing from Borussia Dortmund said after the game he hopes his positive performance can herald a new beginning for him. And, speaking in his post-match press conference, Mourinho praised the 27-year-old’s display, suggesting he may be in contention for a starting berth in Sunday’s Premier League match against West Ham United.
The boss told reporters: "He just needs now to replicate this kind of performance in the Premier League. The Premier League is different – he needs one more step. Obviously now confidence levels are higher.
"This performance gives him the right to believe that he can p…

THE SIR BOBBY CHARLTON INTERVIEWS: MARCH 2009

THE SIR BOBBY CHARLTON INTERVIEWS: MARCH 2009In the 200th edition of Inside United magazine, published in March 2009, Sir Bobby Charlton recalled the best goals, games and players from his glittering career...  What are your earliest memories of Manchester United?
I listened to the 1948 FA Cup final on the radio when United played Blackpool. There was a lot of talk about the great Stanley Matthews, who played for Blackpool, because the only thing he'd never won was the FA Cup. Everybody wanted Blackpool to win so Stanley could get his winners' medal. I was 11 years old at the time and thought that was a bit unfair on the other team, so I felt a bit of sympathy towards United. You came to United aged 15. Did you consider joining anyone else?
I had offers from lots of other clubs and, funnily enough, I could have played for City. Just before I joined United I played at Maine Road for East Northumberland Boys against Manchester Boys. They beat us 2-0, but I was approached by one of …

KEANE'S AN EXAMPLE FOR GRADUATES TO FOLLOW

Image
KEANE'S AN EXAMPLE FOR GRADUATES TO FOLLOWIt must be a heart-wrenching decision to leave Manchester United before realising your first-team dream, yet Michael Keane has shown that success can be found away from Old Trafford. The Academy graduate was called up to the England national team on Tuesday morning as a replacement for the injured Glen Johnson and a reward for his excellent form with Burnley, the club he joined on a permanent transfer in January 2015 following a short loan spell at Turf Moor. Keane opted to switch to the Clarets at that time in his fledgling career as his opportunities to play regular senior football at United were so limited under the management of Louis van Gaal, who switched between Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans at centre-back in his first season. While it was a huge choice for the Stockport lad to depart his boyhood club for pastures new at just 21, it was completely logical and he has since shown that his judgement was sound…

Lahm urges Bayern to tie down Robben, Ribery

Image
The two veteran wingers will be out on contract at the end of the current season, and the team's captain believes they merit a new deal Philipp Lahm has urged the Bayern Munich hierarchy to tie down Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery as he feels both wingers still have plenty to offer. Who's in FIFA 17's Team of the Week? Robben and Ribery's contracts are due to expire at the end of the season and Bayern have yet to open talks with the duo over a renewal, fueling speculation they could be on the move come June 2017. Lahm, however, wants the experienced attackers to stay put and hopes Bayern will hold on to the duo for at least one more season.  "I would definitely welcome it if both Robben and Ribery would stay put for another year," Lahm told Sport1.  "You simply still see each game that they have incredible quality.
"They have a lot of experience and have been playing at the highest level for a number of years. They know a thing or two about what it m…

MARTIAL'S SIMILAR FINISHES V STOKE

Image
MARTIAL'S SIMILAR FINISHES V STOKEManchester United forward Anthony Martial scored his first goal of the season as a substitute in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Stoke City and, as you can see in our video, the Frenchman’s finish was remarkably similar to his previous strike against the Potters at Old Trafford in 2015/16. On 2 February, Martial beat Jack Butland with a curled shot to provide the perfect climax to a superb counter-attack that included seven quick-fire passes up the pitch. It was later nominated for the club’s Goal of the Season award in May, which Anthony won with his famous debut effort against Liverpool. Exactly eight months later, on Sunday afternoon, Martial dispatched another arching strike from the left flank that flew into the opposite side of the net, this time beating stand-in Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant. It provided a sense of déjà vu for supporters watching the match who had witnessed his previous effort. Although the goal did not secure three points in the …

REPORT: UNITED 1 STOKE CITY 1

Image
REPORT: UNITED 1 STOKE CITY 1Premier League | 2 October 2016 | Old Trafford | Attendance: 75,251 | Scorers: Martial 69; Allen 82 Manchester United were denied a fourth straight win in all competitions on a frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford, as Stoke City struck late on to secure a point. Anthony Martial, on as a second-half substitute, curled home beautifully from 12 yards for his first goal of the season to give the Reds the lead in the 69th minute. But, with eight minutes remaining, Joe Allen scored from close range to earn Mark Hughes' side their first-ever Premier League point at the Theatre of Dreams. Paul Pogba rattled the crossbar late on but United missed the chance to move up to third in the table and will rue a host of missed opportunities in the first half, while Lee Grant produced a standout performance in the Stoke goal. Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho named the same team that beat champions 4-1 last weekend, with four changes from Thursday’s Europa League win ov…

MATA ANGRY BUT POSITIVE AFTER STOKE DRAW

Image
MATA ANGRY BUT POSITIVE AFTER STOKE DRAWEach and every Monday during the season, Manchester United star Juan Mata pens a personal blog in which he reflects on his past week both on and off the pitch. in his latest post on Monday 3 October, he reveals his anger at the Reds being unable to find a winner against Stoke City... Hi everyone, As I’m writing this I’m feeling angry because the team played really well but we didn’t win. We drew against Stoke, as you know, and I feel that we were very close to getting the third win in eight days. It was a pity, that’s the truth. My perception from the pitch was that we were playing a good game, creating chances, passing the ball effectively, but we couldn’t complete our job. We have to take the positive aspects and know that if we keep playing like this, we will definitely get good results.

After a bad week with several defeats we did what we had to do: stand up and keep working hard to change that. We got to the next round in the EFL Cup, had a s…

Sports: Chelsea Agrees To Re-Sign Luiz

Chelsea have agreed terms to re-sign Brazil defender David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain, the two clubs announced on Wednesday.

Luiz was sold by Premier League Chelsea to French side PSG for a world record fee for a defender when he joined the French club for £50 million ($65 million, 58 million euros) in 2014.

But the 29-year-old was in danger of losing his place to compatriot Marquinhos this season and, with new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte desperate for defensive reinforcements, the Blues have agreed to bring him back to Stamford Bridge for a reported £32 million.

“Chelsea Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed terms for the transfer of David Luiz back to London,” a statement on Chelsea’s website read, similar to PSG’s own statement.

“The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.”

OFFICIAL: Januzaj joins Sunderland on loan

Image
The new Black Cats manager has been reunited with one of the stars of his short Manchester United tenure on a season-long loan deal David Moyes has confirmed that Sunderland have brought in Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan. The Belgium international was handed his break with United when Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford, but struggled for game-time under Louis van Gaal. Januzaj also had an unsuccessful loan move to Borussia Dortmund last season, and the Sunderland boss has confirmed this latest temporary switch in a pre-match news conference ahead of his side's opener at Manchester City. "Adnan will give us a different variation," Moyes said.  "I have to get him back to the level he played at two years ago - he will get every opportunity to do the business. I'm hoping the Sunderland fans will see the real Adnan Januzaj." The 21-year-old winger will go straight into Sunderland's squad to face City on Saturday, along with fe…
